Hip Hoodie Ken

Hip Hoodie Ken was my first doll purchase of 2017 (yes, others soon followed).

Here he is out of his packaging. He has a nice looking face and body, and a decent outfit.

Here's a close-up. I'm so happy to see a different AA face mold for Ken, and one that doesn't feature a broad grin.

His hoodie covers his tall hair. His hoodie and shirt are one piece.

Here's a view from the back. His hoodie top attaches with Velcro in the back, and there's a gap at the top.

This guy can stand around looking handsome, but he can't do much else. His arms and legs can be moved back and forth. Below, I have his arms and legs spread to the side as far as they will go.

I've posed him below in some action figure undies to show a better view of his body. The sculpting of his hollow body is attractive, but it is fairly useless for me without articulation. I hope that Mattel makes more dolls with this sculpt, but with articulation. That would be nice.

Without the ability to bend his knees, it is difficult for him to sit down.

My overall impression is that I'm glad to see a new attractive Ken sculpt, however I'm disappointed in the body. The outfit and shoes are about standard for a Ken fashion. I will be looking for an articulated body for this guy.

  1. I love the new sculpt. I'd love to see this guy with hair and articulation, too.

    1. Hi BlackKitty! I hope I'm able to find a really good articulated match for this guy. He just looks so sad halfway sitting on the couch like that.

  2. And his neck knob doesn't even move! I don't know why Mattel went all cheap on this guy! I put mine on my last AA Texas A&M body. I got another one to experiment with putting hair on his head and I am thinking maybe one of the articulated male Kenya bodies might work for him. I am also searching around for AA action figure bodies that would work. If I find anything, I will let you know!

    1. Thanks Phyllis! I didn't get any extra AA Texas A&M dolls, and now they are going for ridiculous prices. I hope I'm able to find a body that's a good match for him soon. He looks like he would perhaps be a good color match for the Kenya Dwayne doll, but I don't think they ever made a fully articulated version of Dwayne.

  3. I love this guy's face! I recently bought him and put him on an AA Texas A&M cheerleader body and he's totally fabulous now!

    1. Hi Wendy! I sure wish that I'd purchased extra AA Texas A&M guys. If I'd known then what I know now...

  4. He does have a handsome face - and so nice his expression is serious. I've been lucky to have received him as a gift from a fellow collector. (Will share about that in a future post.) I hope you find an articulated body for him. Good to see you posting again ;-)
