Don't Fight the Feeling

Sometimes you've just gotta break down and get what you want, right?  I've broken down a lot lately.

I've been wanting a Shindana doll for years.  After seeing blog posts by Black Doll Enthusiast and D7ana about Disco Wanda, I decided that she would be the one.  So I decided not to wait anymore and to go ahead and buy her.  My Disco Wanda is much lighter than I expected her to be.  Is it possible that mine is a Juanita?  On top of the box, there are stock numbers for both Wanda and Juanita.  Will I find the stock number on the actual doll?  I will be removing Wanda (Juanita?) from her box soon, so I guess I shall see.

Ever since I found out about the Kenner Dana doll years ago, I have wanted her.  As a child, I had a Darci doll and she was my favorite fashion doll at the time because of her pose-ability.  I talked about my childhood Darci doll in this post, and I also mentioned my desire for Darci's AA friend Dana that I didn't even know existed until I was an adult.  I tried to talk myself out of wanting Dana many times because I decided long ago not to go down the path of trying to replace my beloved childhood dolls.  But Dana's different from the doll that I had, so I've finally broken down and purchased her.  And let me just tell you, the 9 year old little girl in me was giddy when I held this doll in my hands.  Black Doll Enthusiast had a recent post about Dana.

Three years ago, I was hospitalized and given a devastating diagnosis (I'll be writing about that soon).  At that time, my husband told me that I needed to buy some doctor and nurse dolls to help take care of me.  I agreed.  I'm just now starting to gather my doll medical professionals.  I had previously purchased this nurse outfit, but I still haven't decided who will wear it.

I've added a Nurse Julia repro doll to the medical staff here.  I've been wanting her for a while.

I've also added Dr. Ken to the staff.  Little Tommy will have lots of little friends to play with here.
I have another doctor and an EMT that I want to add to the medical staff.  I don't need any help from these dolls, but I have several dolls that could use some medical attention.

It's posts like this one from Vanessa that have me going back to Walmart in search of more Sparkle Girlz clothes.  Look what I found.

Black Doll Enthusiast recently posted about the availability of nude Dasia dolls.  I didn't even have to think twice about this purchase.  I've wanted another Dasia for years.  I have played with my Dasia a little, and her hair has become fuzzy over the years.  I will dress my new Dasia in the original Dasia outfit, and I will not play with her (much), and I will try my best not to make her hair fuzzy.  As for the other Dasia, there's going to be some serious doll play with that one.  I imagine that she will go through a significant transformation in the coming years.

And last but certainly not least, I've added Color Infusion Janay to my collection after seeing this post by Black Doll Enthusiast.  I tried hard to resist, but when I found myself going back to that blog post over and over again to look at the photos, I knew I had to get her or I would regret it.  I exercised very little restraint or patience and splurged a little to get her, but I'm happy that she's here.

My weekend is going to be extremely busy with real life stuff, but I'm going to schedule myself for a few hours of serious doll play!

  3. I have also "not fought that feeling" and went on a buying binge as well! I could not pass up the opportunity to get the Dasia doll either (she arrived yesterday). I also purchased 2 Simba Supermodel dolls, 3 J-dolls, 2 more AG minis, and more! I also stop by the doll section everytime I am in Walmart to check to see if there are any new Sparkle Girlz clothes and manage to end up with a few in my cart.

    1. Thanks for letting me know that I'm not alone, Phyllis! :) Did you find a U.S. source for your Supermodel dolls? I stopped by the doll section just tonight at Walmart, and this one actually had some of the single Sparkle Girlz outfits. Can't wait to see your new arrivals!

  4. What a doll feast for the eyes! I can see why you had to get Dana. I even like the way she looks on the box! lol I saw the Sparkle girlz outfits. I bought a few of the cheaper ones.
I hope we all give you smiles that will help you feel your best. :-)

    1. The grandmommy, I loved my Darci doll so much as a child, and I think that love has been transferred to my "new" Dana. I took her out of the box for a little while today, and just the feel of her skirt brought back so many memories! That 9 year old little girl inside of me is still just as giddy as can be, and can't wait to play with Dana. Maybe tomorrow, just for a little while.

They say that laughter is the best medicine, and you all give me plenty of laughs. :)

  5. Hi Roxanne,

First let me say congratulations on adding so many fabulous dolls to your doll family.

I do believe your Shindana doll is Disco Juanita based on her dress and complexion. She is probably harder to find than Wanda. My Wandas all have the same two stock #'s on their boxes. Shindana probably used the same box for both dolls.

I am so happy for the 9-year-old girl in you for finding Dana.

Congrats on your medical staff enhancement with Julia and Dr. Ken. Your new Dasia is probably happy that she will be enjoyed but preserved. Isn't Color Infusion Janay a most gorgeous doll? I love her! Let me know if you find additional shoes that fit her that are stylish as well. I want only the best for my Janay. Some of the MH shoes I've seen are nice, but they are too plastic looking that Janay would turn up her nose at them. :-)

    Congrats again.

    1. Thank you, Debbie! I hope that there is something definitive on my Shindana doll's body that will allow me to identify it as either Juanita or Wanda. I'm thinking that this doll is Juanita also, but I haven't found any photos of Juanita online.

Janay is so beautiful! But she is indeed picky. I brought out the Monster High shoes for her and she turned her nose up a them. She also did not like the Jakks Pacific shoes (neither did I because she could not stand in them). She hated the Bratzillaz boots (but at least she could stand in those). I do not have any shoes that will suit her. I'll be on the hunt for some shoes for her soon enough.

  7. What a nice collection of dolls. I love the Color Fusion Janay as well. I visit the toy sections for lunch during my work week to have a nice break in the day. Hope you got a chance to check out my post on the new dolls from Kenya's World.

    1. Hi Ollie's Dollies, and welcome! I did go and check out your post on the Kenya's World dolls. Congratulations on starting your new blog! On my lunch break, I used to go to Big Lots sometimes, but I lost interest a while ago (probably because they stopped carrying the Power Team guys). There's a thrift store around the corner from where I work, so maybe I'll check that out sometime to see if I can get lucky.

  8. Sometimes, I really hate my Internet provider and my computer. I had a lovely message all typed out but then it got lost. Grrrrrwwwwllll.

First, thanks for the mention and the link to my blog. That's kind of you to do.

Second, I am so happy that your health improved. I did not know exactly what the problem was, but I remember the worry in the We Love Black Dolls Yahoo Group days. Glad then and now that you got better. Yay!

Congratulations on your new lovely dolls. Glad to see them and to read the enthusiasm in your post. I still have my oxidized hair, childhood Julia, but I hope to someday have a Dasia and a Dana.

Cheers to you and yours and to many more blogging years to come! I'll be reading you ;-)

    1. Hi D7ana! It's unfortunate that you lost that first lovely message, and I'm glad that you took the time to write me another lovely message. :) I'm very grateful that my health has improved as much as it has. Thanks for being here from the very beginning, and I look forward to many more years of blogging! And I'll be there to read about it on your blog when you get your Dasia and Dana.

  9. Congrats on all the great purchases! You've added some wonderful dolls to your collection. Janay is gorgeous, and I can't wait to see what you do with Dasia. That Dr. Ken is a cutie, isn't he? Have you seen the new Sparkle Girlz fashion dolls? There's even a cute cowgirl in the lineup. I took pics with my phone. I need to do a post about them.

    1. Thank you, Jewell! I have big plans for Dasia, but I'll have to take it one step at a time. Dr. Ken is cute, but I have too many Kens that look just like him. He may have to give up his lab coat and equipment to someone else. I can always change the name tag on the coat. I stopped by your blog and took a look at your photos. That Sparkle Girlz cowgirl is really cute! Thanks for taking the time to take photos and write a post.

  10. Congratulations on your very nice haul! Purchasing childhood dolls brings back many memories for me as well. Your Janay is lovely. I kick myself everytime I see one because I was at the convention and passed her over. I also purchased a Dasia and I am expecting her any day - special thanks to Debbie @ BDE (huge smile).

Have a lovely weekend! I look forward to seeing your post about your new dollies. : )

    1. Thanks so much Georgia Girl! I took Dana out of her box today for a little while, and it brought back so many memories! One of these years, I need to make it to one of those conventions. Maybe next year. I'm so happy that Debbie shared the information about purchasing nude Dasias. I've seen so many people express an interest in getting her over the years, and I'm happy that some have been able to add her to their collections.

I hope that you're having an awesome weekend!

  12. Fascinating to me how many of us use our doll play for physical and spiritual healing. I'm glad that you are now in good health and I hope that playing with your doctor and nurse dolls will keep you from having to go see the real ones. :-). After Debbie's post I also ordered a Dasia. I think we should have a round robin series of blog posts dedicated to Dasia.

    1. Thank you limbe dolls! When I was in the hospital 3 years go, I asked my husband to bring a couple of my dolls to my room. It was a comfort to have my dolls there, and a nice distraction for me to go and pose them on the shelf from time to time. I'm all for a series of Dasia posts! I'm interested to see what others do with theirs, and the clothes and shoes that they will use for her.

    1. Thanks Valsays! I wish that Dasia was jointed, too. Maybe one day. :) I hope that you're able to add her to your collection. And Nurse Julia looks so good in her box that I'm almost tempted not to take her out. I love buying dolls with beat-up boxes (that's obvious from the photos above LOL) because the dolls are generally less expensive when the box is not pristine, and I don't feel bad about opening the box. But Nurse Julia has a really good box! I'm torn.
