I decided to order an Obitsu body for young Harry. I had been hearing about these bodies for years, but never had an occasion to purchase one since they do not make brown bodies. I purchased a 21cm body in flesh tone (my only choices were white and flesh).
The body came with 3 extra sets of hands, and 4 different neck connectors of various sizes. With 28 points of articulation, this figure is extremely pose-able and is by far my most articulated child figure.
I needed to change the neck connector in order to get Harry's head onto the body. This was not a problem. The neck connectors are attached with a small screw.
I removed the screw, detached a larger neck connector, and attached that neck connector to the body with the screw.
With the larger neck connector in place, I was able to easily attach Harry's head to the body.
Here he is with head attached and fully dressed. He is wearing his original shirt and pants. The pants are a little too short for him now.
I was trying to get him to change clothes, but all he wanted to do was hang out with his new friends.
Here is a height comparison. Pictured below from left to right are: SIS Julian, Mego Our Gang Buckwheat, Mattel Todd, Harry, and Dave Cub Scout.
I think that I should have purchased a taller body for Harry. He has a very boyish face, but his head is kind of on the large side, so I think that he could pass as a teen. I thought about giving this body to my White Todd doll and purchasing a taller one for Harry, but the Obitsu body is too pale for Todd. I will keep Harry on this body for now, but he may grow a few centimeters in the future.
As happy as my girls were about the new arrival, I think that my boys were even happier. I have so few boys that some of my short men stand in for boys every now and then.
*Shaking my head* Boys! They will not be satisfied until someone breaks a limb.
My overall impression of the Obitsu body is that it is a good purchase for the money. The body is flexible and sturdy, and it is easy to swap out the neck connectors and hands. I wish that this company (or another company like this) would make brown bodies. I am so impressed with this body that I wanted to purchase more for some of my other White dolls (male and female), but this "flesh" color is too pale for all of them. So this will be my only Obitsu for a while.
28 points of articulation? Cool! I think it is also great he has three sets of hands. You should be able to get a lot posing out of him!
ReplyDeleteThank you The grandmommy! He really is fun to pose. I just wish that I had gotten a taller body for him. It's hard to know exactly what to get without seeing it in person.
DeleteObitsu did a limited run of "Marrone" and "coconut" skintones, which were two different shades of brown and matched a lot of darker heads. Sadly, they are now absolutely impossible to find.
ReplyDeleteVolks bodies are about the same price and they have a discontinued "tan" skintone, which matches the regular barbie and kens skin. They are not making anymore, but they still have some stock left, including 22cm bodies (only girls though, no guys).
Ebay sometimes gets some rogue Isul bodies, which are the shorter Pullip boys, in different colors. It's not often enough though :(
Hope it helps :)
Hi Kat, thanks so much for the info! I did a google image search and was able to see photos of the Marrone and coconut skintones. I'd love to have some of the coconut ones! Maybe I can find a Volks tan body for one of my girls. As far as the Isul bodies, from what I'm seeing on eBay, I don't think that I'll ever get one of these. The prices are far out of my price range.
DeleteI initially thought the Obitsu body was for a female.
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if darker skin tones were available.

Hi Debbie, I thought that the male bodies looked a little full in the chest (but not as full as the female bodies of the same size). It would be so nice if they would routinely make darker bodies. I guess I'll just keep watching and waiting and wishing and hoping...
DeleteI thought that was a lady body in the bag too. Actually I think that body would work for a male or female teen. All that articulation is awesome and the adjustable neck and multiple hands are just icing on the cake.
ReplyDeleteHi Muff, I agree that this body would work well for a male or a female. I'm loving the articulation! I don't know what I'll do with some of the hands, though.
DeleteCongratulations on your new poser-Harry! Really cute to see him go scrambling on a rooftop with the other guys. (Okay, that was NOT a mommy-type comment, lol.)
ReplyDeleteI have an Obitsu teen male body somewhere that I had - quelle coincidence - intended for the teen Harry Potter by Mattel. I'll see if I can find it ;-) Thanks for sharing these tips about altering the neck to fit a Mattel head.
Thanks D7ana! Little Harry is having a great time seeing what all he can do. I guess I'd be the same way though if I were just a detached head for years and then suddenly had a body. ::shuddering at the thought...::
DeleteI hope that you do find your Obitsu teen male soon so that I can see photos! :)
I'm a bad doll mommy - I've got several detached heads and headless bodies lying around ;-}
DeleteOh, yes. Teen Harry's head is still attached to his original body so he is not too bad off. He just has limited articulation.
But that Obitsu body - wheresoever it is - deserves a head.
LOL @ being a bad doll mommy, D7ana. I have several headless bodies, and a few heads. The only one that I really feel guilt over is my purple-haired Kana. Every time I open the drawer, there she is with that stunned expression. She is begging for a body. I thought about buying her an Obitsu body and trying to dye or paint it. I just don't know. I'll have to research that a bit more, because the results that I've seen on the internet are questionable.
DeleteI've finally got my teen Harry head and teen Obitsu body in a post, Roxanne. Thanks for any insights you can lend ;-)
DeleteAwesome D7ana! I hope that you're able to use you Harry head with your Obitsu body. I have suggestions for eliminating the wobble, but not for eliminating the gap.
DeleteHe looks really cute and the head doesn't seem all that much out of proportion - although it will be interesting to see the proportions if you do get that taller body. But I forsee broken legs and crutches if he keeps sliding down rooves that way.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carrickters! Well if he does break legs, I've heard that the Obitsu body parts are easy to obtain and swap out, so that's a plus. :)
DeleteHi, RoxanneRoxanne. I'm glad to read your blog again. My doll girls also always want me to get more doll boys for them. lol. I have 2 Harry Potter dolls, 1 Ron doll, 3 Mattel Todds and several other boys of their size. I also have 10 Takara boys, who are a bit taller and several teen boys of HSM type. But still there are so many girls and very few boys.
ReplyDeleteMy friend Julia uses Obitsy and Volks teen bodies for some of her dolls also. For Hermiona and Harry, for some of "When I read I dream" dolls, for Only Heart club dolls and for some of Takara boys. But I mostly don't like the result. Those bodies are always too thin and too pale, though they have great articulation. That's why I don't use them for my dolls. It would be great to have brown articulated bodies for teens and kids, but I don't think Obitsu or Volks will make them...
Hi Dukasha! It's so good to have you back again. It sounds like you have quite a few boys in your collection. There is a brown skinned Takara doll that I would love to have, but he is so hard to find. Since the volks and obitsu bodies are so very pale, I don't ever see myself having very many of them. I've had a little time to adjust to Harry at his current height on the obitsu body, and I don't think that I will be ordering a taller body for him at any point (unless another pale head comes into my possession at some point).
DeleteDo you mean Takara Tom? I have him, but he is Jenny sized. It would be great to have a Licca sized brown skinned boy, but I think, they don't exist.
DeleteI have boys in all 1:6 sizes and ages, from babies to adult men, but the number of girls is always much more.
Yes, Takara Tom is the one that I would love to have. I have a Jenny, and she would love to have Tom join her. I don't even have any 1:6 sized babies. I have 2 babies, and they are both girls. I'll have to work on that. Some of my ladies would love to become mothers.
DeleteI really like the way he turned out! I've seen it flicker but didn't know how it was done
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
Thank you, Ms. Leo!
DeleteHarry looks great with his new body. It's nice that the bodies come with so many extras.
ReplyDeleteThanks Vanessa! Yes, the extras are nice. If I could re-do this purchase, not only would I purchase a taller body, but I would get the body with the magnet feet and the stand. Harry would be able to do so many cool poses with that!
