Curvy Fun

My two curvy Barbies - Emoji Fun on the left, and Dolled up Denim on the right.

Dolled Up Denim arrived several weeks ago.

Here she is out of her package. She can stand unassisted in her shoes.

Emoji Fun arrived this week. She comes with a couple of extra outfits, and an extra handbag and shoes.

Here she is out of her package. My doll came with hair that is much straighter than the photos on the packaging. She can stand unassisted in both pairs of her shoes.

And here she is close up. Her glasses have made small indentations below her eyes. I like her in her glasses and intend to keep them on her. I wish that the glasses had lenses.

Brace yourself for upcoming plastic nudity. Here is a look at the curvy bodies. They both wear molded on flesh colored panties. Their arms can raise up and out. Their legs can move back and forth, and can open a little. There is no articulation at the elbows or knees.

The dolls can wear Barbie bras and negligees, but they can't wear Barbie panties. Below, Emoji Fun wears a pair of Mixis Opal panties, and Dolled Up Denim wears a pair of action figure panties.

Here they are in Emoji Fun's extra outfits.

Here they are in action figure active wear, compared to other dolls with curves. The dolls are from left to right: Dasia, Hot Toys TrueType Cuban American, Emoji Fun, Dolled Up Denim, Happy Family Grandma, and Lammily.

And here they are with more dolls with curves. The dolls are from left to right: Tracy Turnblad, Dominique, Emoji Fun, Dolled Up Denim, Opal body with Monsieur Z Wild head, and Bessie Coleman.

They can share clothes with my action figure ladies. Below, the suits that they wear fit tightly, and the skirts fit high on their waists, making the length of the skirts appear shorter. My action figure ladies are thrilled with the clothing options that their new curvy friends have provided. The dolls below are from left to right: Opal head on a Takara clone body, Sheva Alomar head on a Triad Alpha small bust body, Emoji fun, Dolled Up Denim, Triad Alpha (dark skin version), and Hot Toys TrueType Cuban American.

The purple dress below is usually worn by my Happy Family Grandma or one of my action figure ladies because it is slightly too large for Barbie. My new curvy ladies can wear it, too. Below on the right, Dolled Up Denim is wearing Grandma's original clothing. The top and sweater fit (although the top is a little short), but the pants will not close in the back. Grandma looks good in Emoji Fun's dress and shoes. Grandma can not stand unassisted in their shoes, and they can not stand unassisted in Grandma's shoes.

On the left, Emoji Fun wears Dominique's clothes. The turtleneck and coat fit, but the jeans are way too short. On the right, Dolled Up Denim wears Opal's original dress, which fits fine. She can put on and stand unassisted in Momoko's boots, but they gape open in the back.

They are wearing Sparkle Girlz clothing below.

They are posing with Mammy below because Mammy did not want to be left out of any post featuring curvy ladies. Both curvy Barbies are wearing boy jeans. Emoji Fun wears a pair of glittery jeans that none of my guys would wear, and a Sparkle Girlz top. Dolled Up Denim wears a pair of action figure jeans and a guy's T-shirt. The jeans are too long for her.

Overall, I love these dolls. I love the size diversity that Mattel has introduced in the new line of dolls, but the size difference isn't huge so they still have plenty of clothing options. I wish that these dolls had articulation. I see in Mattel's promo pics that there are curvy dolls with articulation, so I really hope that those dolls will be released.

  2. Dolled Up Denim is on my wish list but she isn't available here yet. I may have to buy her on-line. It's nice to see they have a variety of clothing options and Happy Families Grandma looks fantastic in that blue dress.

    1. Thanks Carrickters! I hope that you're able to get Dolled Up Denim soon. I agree that Happy Family Grandma looks great in that dress. She will be borrowing that one for special occasions.

  3. I love it,love it, love it! Seeing all your full-figured girls coming out to play! I don't have any Mixis Dolls but I'LL be on the lookout for their clothes! Nice fashion show too!

BTW, did you do something different to your blog? I'm able to see it on my tablet without it jumping around! Woohoo! Or was I a blogger update?

    1. Hi Ms. Leo! First of all, I'm so happy that you're not having the problem seeing my blog on your tablet anymore. I haven't done anything different. As for the dolls, it was fun for me to bring my full figured ladies together and try out different looks for them.

  4. Very lovely dolls! I like them very much. I'm sad, that here, in Hungary, don't sold the whole series of new fashiniostas, only the blonde one, from curly line.
Is the AA Happy Family grangma body colour is fit to Dolled Up Denim colour? A mix of this two dolls, could be fun...

  5. You do have a very nice lineup of Curvy ladies! I do love the new Curvy Barbie line from Mattel. I am seeing some really great photos of these ladies. I loved all of the clothing options you shared in this post. I hadn't really thought about trying the Mixis clothes on them. I also have some patterns for my Mixis that I could probably use to make outfits for the Curvy girls.

    1. Thank you, Phyllis! I love having dolls of various shapes and sizes in my collection, and I think that the curvy ladies are underrepresented, so I love it when companies release them. Regarding the Mixis clothes, be sure to see DBG's and Jewell's posts below. If you're going to use some Mixis patterns, you might want to make sure that you use some stretchy material. :) I want to see your ladies in the fashions that you create for them when they're done!

  8. I hadn't guessed that Sparkle Girlz clothing can work for the curvy bodies - that's great to know!

    1. Hi jSarie! Only some of the Sparkle Girlz outfits will work. The pink outfit is made of stretchy material, and the glittery dress is bigger than the average Sparkle Girlz attire.

  9. Great review, Roxanne! It's good to know the curvy Barbies have more clothing options than I had imagined. Knit fabrics are so forgiving. I hope readers know that all Mixis fashions will not fit the curvy Barbies. Opal's sundress fits because it is made of a knit fabric that stretches. If the fabric doesn't stretch, Mixis fashions won't fit the Curvy Barbies.

I love their shapely legs. I too hope Mattel releases articulated curvy girls, as shown in Barbie Instagram images. It would be too cruel to tease us with those and not follow through. But knowing Mattel...

    1. Thank you, Debbie! Opal's dress is the only piece of Mixis clothing that I have, and you're right it is very stretchy. Thanks for your note that not all Mixis clothing will fit the curvy Barbies. I love their shapely legs also, and their overall shape. I hope that Mattel will not be cruel and will follow through with producing curvy ladies with articulation.

  10. They look really great in the Sparkle Girlz clothing! That's a surprise. I really like the Emoji dress on Grandma.

    1. Hi Muff! They can't wear all Sparkle Girlz clothing, but I agree that both of these outfits look great on them. I really like that blue dress on Grandma, the curvy Barbies, and my action figure ladies! It seems to flatter them all. I think that's one that they will all share.

  11. Great to see the side-by-side comparison with other curvy dolls. The girls look great in their lingerie and active wear. I want to second what DBG said about Mixis fashions. The Mixis pants and skirt I own do not fit my curvy Barbie. I have a Mixis dress that almost fits because it's an A-line cut, but it doesn't close properly in back since the fabric is not stretchy.

    1. Thank you, Jewell! I was glad to see that the Barbie bras fit these dolls. I could tell by looking at them that the panties would not fit, but I'm glad that I had a couple of pairs of panties that would fit them. The action wear fits them very well. Thanks for seconding DBG in pointing out that most Mixis clothes will not fit these dolls.

    1. Thanks Vanessa! Yes, it looks like they'll have plenty to wear, and some shoe options also. Right now they are unhappy that they are still in their boy jeans. They want their own clothes back, but the action figure ladies are hesitant to give them back.

  14. Your curvy ladies are all on point! I am still on the fence with about Emoji. I think she telling me to give and stop playing but the Super Hero and Camilla one first. Now that LT. Uhura has to be pre-order she might not make it Dotsville.

    1. Thank you, Brini! I must have Lt. Uhura. Mattel is really drawing me in with some of their new doll offerings. If they come out with articulated curvy dolls, I'm going to need some of those also.
