A Tale of Two Dasias

I'm so happy to have 2 Dasias in my collection - one to play with, and one to display.  In the photo below, Dasia on the left is my newer one, and she is just a little darker than my older one.  Dasia on the right has seen better days.  I've gotten the new one just in time, because the band holding the older one's hair in place just snapped and her fuzzy curls were falling.  The stains on the upper part of the older one's body did not come from her original clothing, but the stains on the lower part did come from her original stockings.  Yes, I know I need to get some Oxy10.

So I finally got to do what I've been tempted to do for years:  I combed Dasia's hair!  Her curls yielded a nice afro once picked out.

I searched for clothes for my older Dasia to wear, and found that she can wear some of the stretchier Ken tops.  In the photo below, Dasia is wearing a Ken top and Russell Williams' shorts.

Russell did not approve of this at all, and has flat refused to loan Dasia his shorts.  He has suffered the indignity of being here for years without pants and without shoes, he is not about to go completely bottomless.  So the search continued.

Dasia can wear Weekend Hang TJ's warm up suit (it's a tight fit).  Dasia borrowed Scottie Pippen's shoes for the photo below.  I like it when dolls can stand without the assistance of stands, and this was the only way that I could get Dasia to balance in Scottie's shoes.

My newer Dasia is now redressed in my older Dasia's original outfit.  I will leave the hairnet on her head to prevent any hair fiascos.  Dasia can stand in her original shoes without the use of her doll stand (which I still have around here somewhere).

If the 2 Dasias ever want to go out together for a night on the town, Casual Dasia can borrow Tracy Turnblad's dress.  She can't fit Tracy's shoes however, so that will be an issue.

If you want to see how well Dasia poses compared to other larger dolls, check out my Large and Lovely Doll Comparisons.

Thanks again Black Doll Enthusiast, and thanks Georgette!

  1. Wow... Dasia looks great in TJs jogging suit and Tracy Turblad's dress. You are so creative with dressing your dolls. I probably have tons of stuff here that Dasia can wear, but I didn't think outside the female clothing box.

Poor Russell... I certainly hope he finds something to wear soon. I don't blame him for not wanting to share his shorts with Dasia. A guy has to drawn the line somewhere.

    1. Thanks Debbie! You probably do have a ton of stuff that Dasia can wear since you collect dolls of all sizes. A blouse for a 16" or 18" doll might make a nice dress for Dasia. A short skirt for that size doll might also make a nice longer skirt for Dasia. The pink and black "dress" that Dasia wore in her Raining Men photo was a blouse for an 18" doll. Have fun coming up with creative fashions for her!

As for Russell, one of these days I really will have to buy him something to wear. He really has been patient.

  7. Lucky Dasia! New threads and a new 'do. She looks like she's stepping out and bent on getting her own Grown Folks Business storyline ;-)

She is on my Wish List too. Great to have body variety among our figures, isn't it?

    1. Thanks D7ana! I definitely like having body diversity in my collection! Dasia is having a good time, but she probably will not have her own storyline in Grown Folks Business due to her lack of articulation. :( She will show up in the background from time to time.

    1. Thank you Fricskamacska! These dolls are not currently available on eBay. In this post, Black Doll Enthusiast explained that those interested in obtaining one of these dolls could contact one of the creators of the doll line directly. Please refer to that post for more details. I hope that you're able to get one!

  9. I just got mine and am trying outfits on her! I didn't know that the body stained. I'll keep that in mind. I wish I could have gotten some heels for her! Question... is she supposed to stand with one foot in the front? I notice that one foot doesn't rest flat with both feet together. What other shoes can she wear?

    1. I'm so glad that you were able to get her, Ms. Leo! I hope that you'll do a post showing the different outfits that you've found that fit her. I don't know if she's supposed to stand with one foot in the front. In my photos, I noticed that in the one with the 2 Dasias posed with their feet together, they both look like they're leaning to the right slightly. The only shoes that I have that Dasia can fit are Scottie Pippens' and Tyson's (Billy doll). I'm hoping that others who collect dolls of various sizes will find that some of the doll shoes for their taller dolls or maybe even baby dolls will fit Dasia (I'm looking in Debbie's general direction). :)
