Special Day Keyshia

Of the dolls from my previous post, I decided to open Special Day Keyshia first (thanks to some good advice and quality concerns).

She came with no socks and no earrings (sigh).  Otherwise, she's in good condition.  Here's a close-up.

And here's a full shot.

Thanks to posts on I-Luv-Dolls and Black Doll Collecting blogs, I expected there to be differences between this Keyshia and my Weekend Fun Keyshia, and there are.  They are both cute, though.

Check out my Weekend Fun Keyshia post for a more detailed review of the Keyshia doll in general, and my Small Girl Dolls Comparisons post to check out how Keyshia's articulation compares to other dolls.

Here are Kenya (rebodied), TJ, and the two Keyshia's.

So guess what happens next?

That's right!  It's head swappin' time!  In today's head swap, AA Todd grows a bit, while Special Day Keyshia shrinks.  Todd's head fits well on Keyshia's body, but Keyshia's head is a little loose on Janet's body (yep, Todd was using Jane'ts articulated body prior to this).  I know that Keyshia's head is too big for this body, but she will have to deal with it until the next swap.  I like Todd's head better on this body than I did on his original stiff body or Janet's articulated body.

Here's the new Todd compared to some of my other teen and tween boys.

I'll have to give short Keyshia a new name.  I'm thinking about Keylee.  What do you think?  Here's Keylee and Janet becoming acquainted, Todd Brown and Todd White are about to play ball (although Todd Brown now has an unfair advantage), and others just hanging out.

  1. Your Special Day Keyshia looks different than my doll and also different that my School Day Keyshia. Thus far, I have seen three different versions of Keyshia. The different eye painting changes the look. I am glad she did not have any flaws.

I like her new body and new name.

I had to laugh out loud at the two Todds surnames. With his new body, Todd Brown will definitely have an advantage over Todd White in basketball. Todd White will just have to hone up his skills and prove that white boys can jump.

    :-)

    1. LOL Debbie! Todd White can do it!

I wonder why there's so much variation between the Keyshia's? I don't mind it, in fact I like the variations. I hope to one day see the lighter Keyshia that's pictured on the back of the box. I already have a head swap in mind for that one.

    2. Ms. Leo suggested in one of her Keyshia posts or in a comment to one of mine that the variations in Keyshia's appearance might be caused by the different machinery (or people) used to paint the eyes and lips.

      Can Keyshia wear Calista's clothing?

    3. That sounds plausible, Debbie. But the actual sculpt itself looks a little different to me. Yes, Calista is only slightly larger than Keyshia, so they can share clothes. Calista's feet are longer and wider than Keyshia's, so they can't share all shoes.

Funny how some people have differing opinions about what constitutes thoughtless "racism", isn't it? Personally, I think that was a very tacky comment, regardless of the reference to a movie title and the attempt at a "pun". (Choosing not to capitalize the name "White" reduces it from a pun to merely a race-related joke, of course.)

I'm sure "Black Doll Enthusiast" feels differently.

    5. Hi Anna Karenina, it is very interesting how individuals can derive a very different meaning from the exact same information or scenario. We all have a different "lens" through which we view the world. I tend to be very sensitive in regards to racial issues, but I must say that I did not see anything "racist" about Black Doll Enthusiast's comment. The movie reference made me laugh, and I agreed with her that with practice, Todd White could overcome the height advantage that Todd Brown has.

  2. I must say I like the idea of todd on a larger body! I might have to get a few more keshia dolls! Thanks for mentioning me too! Great post!

  3. I like your Todd on his new body. Boy those Keyshia dolls have enough hair for three dolls. I do think it's nice that they have a different look about them. It allows collectors to have more than one and use them as different characters.

    1. Thanks Vanessa! I do like Todd on the new body, but his hands are a little girly. :) The Keyshia's do have a lot of hair. I'm thinking that there is a perm coming up in the future for the smaller one (Keylee).
