Dolls and Karaoke

The past 3 months have been crazy at work, and I haven't been doing much with my hobbies. I have a work project that's coming to an end. so I have a little bit more time to play. I haven't been playing with dolls much, though. I have been singing. Karaoke style. Online and in real life. So what could be better than combining 2 hobbies that you love? I've done it before, I'll do it again. :) I recorded the song below on SingSnap, which now allows slideshows. Photos of my dolls are in the slideshow. I haven't taken many new photos, so most of these are old, but many of them you've never seen before. I've also added a Karaoke tab to the top of this page that will eventually contain all of the posts where I include myself singing. Anyway, I hope you enjoy! :)

Awwwwww, most of these couples didn't make it, but some of these relationships did manage to stand the test of time. Most of the ones that broke up have moved on (some multiple times), some have since gotten married, some are destined to reunite.

Edit: Well, shoot, it looks like the slideshow will not work with me embedding the song in this post. To see the slideshow, go to this link: http://www.singsnap.com/karaoke/r/be8ee0627

Here is the embedded song, but there is no video. :(
Another edit: Even when I click on this link, the slideshow doesn't work from my cell phone or tablet. :(

  1. So VERY cool! Your voice is as beautiful as ever. I had to laugh at myself though. I thought of someone seeing this grandma staring, smiling at the screen and enjoying fashion dolls in various embraces to a romantic song. LOL I must have looked crazy. LOL

    1. Thanks for listening and watching, The grandmommy! I'm sure that someone would take amusement at seeing you watching my crazy slideshow, but imagine if they could see me in the process of putting this all together (from posing the dolls to singing the song, etc.). :)

Well, here's a slideshow of mine that you and your grandchildren can watch together. LOL! Mickey Mouse sings "Yesterday" by The Beatles. It's me singing in my best Mickey Mouse voice. Kind of a silly story behind it. Might as well tell it. :)

My husband listens to my recorded songs and he gives me critiques, and frequently he has told me that 1) my recorded songs have no emotion, and 2) no artistry on my part (I sound too much like the original artist). He told me that I take myself too seriously. So he suggested that I "sing as someone else". So I said I'd sing as Mickey and I picked the first song that came to mind. It's a good thing that I have a noise cancelling mic because my husband was rolling on the bed laughing as I recorded this song. We both had a good laugh later while listening, and again after I added the slideshow.

My best friend had a son when we were teenagers, and he had Mickey Mouse toys that he loved. One of them was a Mickey Mouse phone that he just wore completely out. I found out back then that I can do a passable Mickey impression, and I started calling him on the phone as Mickey. He would get so excited! Well, he is grown and married now with twins of his own. The twins are nearly 2 years old now, and joked with my friend that it's about time for them to start receiving calls from Mickey Mouse. She told me that her son would be WAY more excited about that than the twins would. :)

  2. I enjoyed your two combined passions, Roxanne. This is a perfect song for couples in love. I must admit that I enjoyed the singing with you alone. You didn't need any help.

I always enjoy your stories about you and your husband. He seems like a really fun, loving, and supportive man.

  3. BTW, you do a great Mickey Mouse singing impression. I wasn't rolling on the bed with laughter but it made me giggle because I knew it was you. I can see how a child could be tricked by your over-the-phone impersonation of Mickey Mouse.

    1. Thanks for listening and commenting, Debbie! The song didn't come out exactly as I wanted it to (never does), but I enjoyed it

I enjoy reading your stories about you and your husband, also. Me and my husband crack each other up on a daily basis. As for his advice on my singing, okay he has a point, especially since I do tend to mimic people when I sing their songs. But this is karaoke, not American Idol, so I don't have to "make it my own" if I don't want to. But after my Mickey Mouse song, he suggested that I do another song imitating a female neighbor of ours. I told him "I see what you're doing. You're more interested in honing my comedic skills than my singing!" Anyway, I did the song as he asked, and he told me that it was his favorite one that I've recorded so far. That's when it dawned on me that he has bad taste. LOL! I'm trying to improve my singing ability, but he just wants to laugh. I need a new coach. LOL!

    2. Now I was almost rolling on the floor with this one. This is too funny. There is nothing worse than a nosy, pesky neighbor who probably looks for something to complain about.

Yes. I think your husband just enjoys being amused.

    3. LOL Debbie! Our nosy, complaining neighbors have tried our patience over the years, but their nosiness comes in handy at times. Like when we're on vacation (we always tell them, and they WILL question people who approach our property when we're away). Alert neighbors indeed.

  4. Good to hear from you again, Roxanne. It's wonderful how doll play brings out our creativity in all areas. Very touching to hear how your husband encourages you. Keep singing!

    1. Thank you, limbe dolls! It's so good to hear from you. I agree, I try to wrap as many hobbies as I can into my doll play (singing, creative writing, photography, videos, etc.). Fun stuff! I am very grateful for my husband and his encouragement.

  6. That's one of my favorite songs so it was a pleasure hearing you sing it while watching doll couples canoodling.
