Let's Try Again

My replacement Triad Alpha (Dark Skin version) came in the mail yesterday.  She arrived in good condition without any major flaws.

She is able to sit just fine.  She is able to pose just as well as my other Alphas.

She is a welcomed addition here, and she is making friends already.

Here are all of my Alphas and my Omega.

In my previous post, when I said "Sheesh, even my Otaku can sit down without falling apart!", I should have known that I was tempting fate.  I wanted a photo of all of my Triad figures together.  I posed the others, and then very carefully and very slowly began to pose my Otaku in a seated position, while her leg very slowly fell off.

There is no snapping this one back on, it is broken.  I'm not too upset about it because I knew that if I continued to try to pose her, it was just a matter of time before this would happen.  So she is going to my dolly infirmary and one day, I will attempt to repair her.

I want to give kudos to Big Bad Toy Store for their excellent customer service while taking care of the situation with my defective Alpha.  I received a quick reply to my initial email asking for photos of the defective figure, and once I sent the photos I received another quick reply asking if I wanted a refund or an exchange.  I had to think about that one for a while, but decided that I really did want this figure in my collection, so I asked for an exchange and hoped for the best.  I received my UPS return label shortly thereafter.  I did not have to go to the Post Office.  Wooohooo!  I returned the figure, and the day after it was delivered to them, they shipped my replacement.  I've been ordering from Big Bad Toy Store for years and never had a problem with any of the merchandise until now (not their fault - the figure had manufacturer defects).  They have always been great to deal with and they are one of the few companies that I trust with pre-orders.  I'm glad that they were able to resolve this issue quickly with minimal inconvenience on my part.

  1. I really like Triad. I keep thinking she looks like someone I know! I am very sorry about Otaku's leg...She can be a differently abled doll maybe? :-)

    1. Thanks The grandmommy! She will be differently abled unless and until I can fix her leg.

  2. It's always nice when merchants offer the excellent customer service Big Bad Toy Box offered you. I am glad you are satisfied with the replacement.

So sorry about the Otaku figure's limb loss. I hope you are able to repair it without problem.

    1. Thanks Debbie! I was relieved that Big Bad Toy Store came through for me, and it was so convenient to be able to ship the figure back via UPS. There is an Office Depot across the street from my job with a UPS shipping center, so I was able to just go there on my lunch break and ship the doll back, and still had enough time on my break to eat lunch at my desk. :)

  3. I'm glad your new Alpha is a good replacement for the defective one and I'm afraid I laughed quite a lot when I read about - and saw the photos of your Otaku. I hope she can eventually be fixed.

    1. Thank you Carrickters! I'm glad that I was able to give you a laugh - I have to keep a sense of humor about these things. :)

  4. I love Alpha's features, they're strong yet she is still attractive. Omega seems to be quite smitten with her. :)

    1. Thank you AG Lanc! I agree about the Alpha's features. I like this one more than the previous Alphas. And I think that the Omega would agree. :)

  5. So sorry to read about her leg breaking. I know my Free Moving Curtis leg broke and I wrapped the body up and put it in a box, I can't toss it out as of yet. Alpha expression is that of a Queen, she doesn't believe in nonsense.

    1. Thank you, Brini! So sorry about your Curtis. I would be hurt over that one, since he is a classic. I hope that you're able to get him fixed, or get him a new body!

    1. Thank you Georgia Girl! I'm happy with her looks. The early prototype photos were not as attractive, in my opinion.

    1. Thanks D7ana! "Repairing" the Otaku may consist of putting her head on a different body at some point. We shall see.

    2. Oh my.

BTW, your Omega guy moves fast. I mean that guy is all up in new Alpha's space; then he has her on his lap. Dang. Dude don't play, do he? LOL

  9. I found your site searching for an Otaku. I've joined because of the immense amount of info you share! Very much appreciated. If you choose to not repair her, please consider letting me purchase her. I don't need the head - just the body. *lol*

  10. Hi Juliet! I'm so glad that you've joined. I do plan to try to repair my Otaku, but if that doesn't work out, I will consider selling her to you.

  11. Thanks! I was considering buying the Hispanic version, but I wonder if her color will match the head for which I need the body. On my computer, the Otaku color seems more saturated than the Hispanic Alpha. I need a body to match my X-men Storm . :-) http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7wv6JApkNTw/Ua2zlnMH77I/AAAAAAAARAM/i67GQjdPBEs/s1600/XMen+Storm+Doll+Collage+1+L.A.Rojas.JPG Do you think the Hispanic Alpha body would be a close enough match? Really, only the neck and wrists will show, but I'd like them to match closely.

    1. That's a cool Storm you've got there! Her head looks like a pretty standard doll head that would fit on a Barbie-type body, right? The Alphas have thick necks, and most doll heads will not fit on those bodies without modification. Have you seen this body? It's hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like that would be a pretty close match to your Storm, and it is relatively inexpensive.

Will your finished Storm wear the same outfit as in the photo? The reason that I ask is because some of the action figures may have a hard time fitting into that (especially the feet). Was there a certain body type that you were looking for? If you don't mind smaller dolls, Liv Alexis (the darker one) and Barbie SIS Grace are fully articulated and might make a decent match.

I've rounded up some of my dolls that may be a close match to your Storm for comparison. Click here to see the photo. They are: (seated) the action figure body like the one in the link above, Hispanic Alpha, Sideshow Jinx; (standing) Hot Toys TT Cuban, Otaku Tan, SIS Grace (still in the box), and Liv Alexis body.

I want to see your Storm when she is finished! :)

  12. Thanks! I did consider that body, but since Storms bodysuit will be especially form fitting, I think the Otaku or the Alpha will look better. It appears that the Otaku's neck is slimmer than the Alpha's. The Otaku color seems darker too....am I wrong? The Jinx body seems a bit "boney" *lol* Storm needs some more shape. If I can't get an Otaku, I'll sand down the Alpha neck. I just hope the color will be a good enough match. It's so hard to tell from the computer monitors. I will certainly share photos when she's done. :-)

    1. Yes, the Otaku's neck is slightly slimmer, and yes the Otaku is darker. Here is another photo with just the Otaku and Alpha. I'm looking forward to seeing your completed Storm! :)

Are you the same Juliet that just started posting on Figurvore? I lurk over there.

  13. Thanks for the info and picture....yup, this solidifies that the Otaku is exactly what I need. I may need to practice patience and wait for one to become available, rather than settle for another. This will be a challenge.*lol*

I may use a Jinx body to do an Eartha Kitt Catwoman...which is ironic because it'll be Halle Berry' s sculpt...but I liked the Eartha Mitt rendition best.

Yes, that's me at Figurevore...I lurked for while. ;-)

    1. You're welcome, Juliet. You're probably aware that the Tan Otaku is legendary for breakage issues. I've seen customizers repair her, though, and make her stronger. Best of luck to you on your upcoming projects. I'm looking forward to seeing your Catwoman, too!

  14. Hi Again! I FINALLY finished my Eartha Kitt inspired Catwoman! You can see here here: http://milkshakemelody.com/figurvore/index.php?topic=3025.0

Storm is still on hold until I find an Otaku body (I'm being stubborn or patient - can't tell). *lol*

  15. Hi again! I've been away from the 1/6th world for some time and now am getting ready to dive back in. I'm wondering if your Otaku is repaired or still waiting.....for me to purchase? :-D A girl can hope. ;-)

    1. Hi Juliet! Welcome back to the 1/6th world. :) I am seriously procrastinating. My Otaku has not been repaired, she is still languishing in the dolly infirmary. I'm not ready to part with her yet. I want to at least TRY to fix her.

  16. Thanks for the welcome. :-) I'm sure you can fix her. That would be a great blog entry if you do a step by step tutorial. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who have their Otakus in the dolly infirmary too. ;-)
