First Head Swap of the Year

Meet Shawn.  He's just an average boy who enjoys sports, video games, and riding his bike.

Here he is with his little sister Shae.  She annoys him because she follows him everywhere.  But she's pretty cool sometimes.

Here he is with new friends that he's met.  From left to right:  Ryan, Julian, Shawn, Buckwheat, and Todd.

What's interesting about Shawn is that he once looked like this.

His transformation was achieved by giving him a boil perm and haircut, removing the coloring from his lips and cheeks, and thickening his eyebrows (temporarily - I'll do it permanently at some point in the future).  His head was swapped with a Bratz Kidz Dylan doll.  Here are Shawn and the new Dylan.

Dylan is not thrilled about this exchange, but I'm sure that he'll adjust in time.

  1. WOW! Great job! I really like the whole concept. The boil perm was a good jumping off point. I love swapping heads and creating new dolls. Great way to start the year. You Go In 2014!

  2. Oh BTW, Dylan will adjust when he learns how to balance the head and not fall over. LOL!

    1. LOL! Yes, Dylan tipped over quite a few times before I was able to capture the photo. He will have to strengthen his neck muscles quickly! He also needs some clothes. He borrowed Ryan's clothes for the photos, but he's currently roaming around here naked.

I love swapping heads to create new dolls, too. It's better than waiting for manufacturers to make exactly what I want. I'm also inspired by others who are creating their own doll designs with 3D printers. I'd like to try that one day to make the doll body that I want, but the price of printing will have to come down quite a bit first.

Thanks for your comments Ms. Leo!

  3. Now this is just too clever and what I call really thinking outside the doll box. Shawn is adorable! I love his new size. It fits him!

Poor Dylan... even though his head is now way too big for his body, he's even cuter.

Ms. Leo's 2nd comment cracked me up.

    1. Thank you, Debbie! I'm pleased with how he turned out. I was looking at Todd and thinking that Shawn would also look good on a Todd body, but I will leave him as he is for now.

After Shawn's transformation was complete, I showed my husband and asked him what he thought. He said "I have nothing to say." I know that this means that he has nothing NICE to say. After reading the comments here, I told him that the readers of my blog like my new boy, and he said "Good. Well, he may be little, but he's still Big Perm." LOL!

  4. Wow!!! Great job! When I saw the pictures at the beginning, I was thinking to myself that Dylan looked exactly like Shae. Very nice. I have tried to resist these dolls, but now I have to get a couple of them.

    1. Thank you , Georgia Girl! I tried to resist the Sparkle Girlz, but the little ones are just so cute and inexpensive that I could not. I tried to limit myself to one, but I kept looking at her and thinking that she's a cute girl, and she'd also make a cute boy, so I had to go back and get another one. Now I'm looking at Shawn and thinking that he and Shae could use an older brother with shorter and more tightly curled hair (I have a Todd body that he'd probably be really cute on). I'm trying to resist...

  5. Now that is just too cool for school! What an awesome idea and well executed.

  6. I have swapped out a Sprakle Girls head onto a Stacie/Janet body. It works pretty well. I never thought of making it a boy. That might be my next one. Sadly those AA bodies aren't easy to come by.

    1. Ms. Leo I'd love to see a photo of your Sparkle Girlz head on her new body. I do wish that AA bodies were much more plentiful.

    2. Ms. Leo - Every Walmart I had gone to for the past year, only had the AA Sparkle girls and they were plentiful. I didn't even know there were white Sparkle girls until I went into the new Walmart in the black neighborhood a few days ago and their shelves were full of white Sparkle dolls. Not a black one in site, and it didn't appear they had ever had black ones. Then I noticed that all the fashion dolls in that store were white. I was taken aback to say the least. I felt compelled to talk to the manager and still may do so.

    1. Thank you Nymphaea! I left him enough hair so that I could re-do his perm if I wanted to, but I think that he is fine the way that he is.

  8. Big Perm! I love it! I'm not a big head swapper myself, but this is awesome and inspiring. GREAT job!

    1. Thank you Eve*Sparkle! Shawn doesn't seem to mind being nicknamed "Big Perm". He's kind of on the small side, so I think that he likes being called "Big" something.
