If I do re-root her, it will be at some point far into the future. She's still cute, and can pull off a cute wig or nice hat.RoxanneRoxannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01079345476722203250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4151470353346020825.post-19032700205342994072018-11-28T01:25:28.764-06:002018-11-28T01:25:28.764-06:00Oh, I'm so glad - but also sad - that I saw th...Oh, I'm so glad - but also sad - that I saw this! I saw this head on eBay and she is so pretty, I wanted to add her to my collection, especially as I really love her pretty hair! But I am not going to risk it now and I think I may have to opt for a new release Janay after all. I thought I was being clever by going for a vintage one but if this happens... no way! I hope you eventually sorted your cute Janay's hair problem. I have a bald doll too whose original hair bugged me so much, I had to remove it. But she looks so great bald and can wear so many cute hats that I haven't done anything about it yet! I did just buy her an awesome wig from Culte De Paris on Etsy though...Dolldiva67https://www.blogger.com/profile/17489103907144080543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4151470353346020825.post-87421302227845610552017-05-09T22:30:19.036-05:002017-05-09T22:30:19.036-05:00Thanks The grandmommy! I had that doll - reddish hair, green eyes, medium-dark brown complexion - but I don't know if I have her still or if I sold her. I don't recall her hair falling out, but it's been some time since I have seen many of my dolls.

The Janay dolls were not always as well made as I would have liked. Gorgeous faces and clever fashions, but sometimes the quality control was hit or miss.

The blond bob looks good on her. Good luck if you decide to re-root her.D7anahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15497306465109590188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4151470353346020825.post-30880972260543062922017-04-14T12:08:18.135-05:002017-04-14T12:08:18.135-05:00Thanks MDW! I have a Manager I have out on display. I just checked here hair and thus far it is OK!

I had always wondered if it is caused by a reaction between the hair and the plastic head because it seems to happen at the hairline. Well on my dolls it did.

I haven't tried rerooting either but we all evolve in our doll collecting.Ms. Leohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09742194324517520395noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4151470353346020825.post-53177184169707828392017-04-09T14:29:05.450-05:002017-04-09T14:29:05.450-05:00Thank you for your input, BlackKitty! I don't have any dolls with that modification yet, and it sounds easy enough. I'll have to keep my eye out for yarn that looks like dreadlocks.RoxanneRoxannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01079345476722203250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4151470353346020825.post-14146610711279103972017-04-09T13:46:30.299-05:002017-04-09T13:46:30.299-05:00This is so weird! I was going to suggest dollyhair, but I'll be original and give you two more options:
- if you want to keep an ethnic hairstyle, a easy shortcut is yarn dreadlocks. Simply get some yarn that looks like dreadlocks and root the head with that. Depending on the yarn, you can skip a lot of plugs. I rooted a head like that and filled every third plug or so. You can apply any of the common rooting methods but I used a small crochet hook to grab the end of the yarn and pull it inside. No knots or glued was necessary, the yarn passed through the hole with difficulty and it would not come off with normal handling.
= Janay's head looked familiar, and I recalled seeing several IT heads on aliexpress. Is this her? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/NK-One-Pcs-Original-FR-Doll-Head-For-FR-Dolls-2002-Limited-Edition-Collection-Brown-Curly/32594023938.html According to buyer feeback, the hair seems ok, maybe not very densely rooted but the hair itself doesn't look suspicious. You could get a second head to enjoy the original hair while you work with this one. I wanted to buy a head from this series myself but I have no spare matching bodies.BlackKittyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14014093330317682849noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4151470353346020825.post-50315459624502495162017-04-08T14:27:35.511-05:002017-04-08T14:27:35.511-05:00Thank you Erin O! I guess I'll have to root her with straight hair, and then give her a boil perm to give her curls again. I'd love to be able to give her the tiny curls that she once had.RoxanneRoxannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01079345476722203250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4151470353346020825.post-38340160129375387792017-04-08T14:25:18.144-05:002017-04-08T14:25:18.144-05:00Thanks for you comments Georgia Girl! Her hair changed color, and I could see little bits of hair all around her, and a couple of empty hair plugs were visible. But when I did touch the hair, it was so brittle and broke at the slightest touch. It's so very strange.RoxanneRoxannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01079345476722203250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4151470353346020825.post-64247073118861536292017-04-08T14:21:31.066-05:002017-04-08T14:21:31.066-05:00Thank you Phyllis! I don't think I'm quite ready to tackle the reroot just yet. I, too, did not keep her in any extreme conditions. It looks like the hair itself reacted to something, probably had something to do with how it was made to begin with.

As for rerooting, I have two places bookmarked for buying doll hair from. Dollyhair.com and restoredoll.com and restoredoll has a rerooting guide that may be helpful? (http://www.restoredoll.com/easy-rerooting-guide/). I haven't seen a good place to find cute curly (and good quality) rerooting hair, but I am still looking!CosmicOutlawhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10831425009578178887noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4151470353346020825.post-64250506008735054292017-04-08T10:01:31.461-05:002017-04-08T10:01:31.461-05:00Wow!! 😯 I have never seen that happen. That is horrible! I bought her for her big hair/curls. I am sorry this happened to your dolly.😔

Rerooting is not too bad. You could work on her a little at a time. I was going to reroot her, but I got her a couple of nice wigs instead and I really like her in her wigs, so she is staying that way. There are a ton of instructional videos out there on how to reroot a doll and I have actually done one reroot that I think turned out pretty good. If I can do it, I am sure you can! Good luck and keep us posted with what you do. Phyllishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06084954419650988542noreply@blogger.com
